Accessibility Statement

The KAIFU-NORDLAND eG housing cooperative is committed to making its website accessible to everyone. This statement applies to the website at kaifu.de, including all sub-pages.

Description of the service

KAIFU-NORDLAND eG is a housing cooperative based in Hamburg. On this website, we provide information about our flats, our housing estates and membership of the cooperative.

On our website, you can:

  • view vacant rental flats and apply for a flat
  • view our housing estates and neighbourhoods in Hamburg
  • find out about membership and the benefits for members
  • apply for vacancies at KAIFU-NORDLAND eG
  • View the co-operative’s events and news
  • contact us via the contact form
  • subscribe to our newsletter
  • access our tenant portal via the ‘My KAIFU’ section

We do not sell any goods on this website. There is no online shop and no payment function.

The tenant portal is a separate service available at kaifu.app. On kaifu.de, you will only find a link to it. This statement applies to kaifu.de and not to kaifu.app.

Explanations regarding use

Property listings

Available flats are displayed as a list and on a map. Filters can be used to narrow down the listings by number of rooms, floor area and rent. Each listing has its own page with photos, details about the flat and an application form. The application form is provided by an external provider and embedded in the page.

My KAIFU

The ‘My KAIFU’ section is not part of this website. The link leads to our tenant portal at kaifu.app. Members and tenants log in there using their own login details.

Job vacancies

Vacancies and the application process for them are also integrated via an external system.

Languages

The website is available in German. You can access content in other languages via the language selector in the header. The German version is complete and has been checked.

Additional features

A site-wide search function, a contact form, a newsletter sign-up and a frequently asked questions section.

Status of compliance with accessibility requirements

This website is partially accessible due to the points listed below.

Our assessment is based on the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.1, Level AA. These correspond to the European standard EN 301 549.

How this statement was prepared

This statement is based on:

  • an automated audit of 115 pages using the Eye-Able tool on 9 September 2026, targeting WCAG Level AA,
  • our own audit using the axe-core tool in Chromium on 31 August and 1 September 2026, covering 31 pages at screen widths of 1440, 375 and 320 pixels,
  • manual checks carried out by us up to 7 September 2026 covering 86 pages.

Automated checks do not detect all barriers. Points 3 to 5 listed below stem from the manual checks.

We have not yet tested the following: practical use with a screen reader, voice control, or every single residential complex and property listing page. We have tested one page from each of these categories as a representative sample.

Non-accessible content

The following content is not yet accessible. We are working to remove these barriers.

1. Error pages without language specification

Error pages can be accessed via a faulty link in the cookie notification pop-up. These pages do not specify the language. Screen readers then read out the text in the language last set by the user. The regular pages on our website are labelled with their language.

We are correcting the link and adding the language information.

2. Lists with no entries

In two places, a list is displayed which, as currently implemented, contains no entries: a navigation list in the header of individual pages and the results list for property listings. Screen readers then announce a list that is empty.

You can also access all pages via the search function and the footer. You can also enquire about available flats by calling 040 43 17 02 - 0 or emailing info@kaifu.de.

We are having both lists amended to ensure they are valid.

3. Visible focus when using the keyboard

Users navigating our website using a keyboard will only see a faint border around the red buttons. The border does not stand out clearly enough against the red background. This makes it difficult to tell exactly where you are on the page. The buttons can be accessed and activated using the keyboard.

We will give the border its own colour with sufficient contrast.

4. Image galleries

On the home page, the ‘Mission Statement’ page and the ‘Careers’ pages, the image galleries lack the buttons for scrolling through the images. The dots below the gallery cannot be clicked. Scrolling through the images is only possible by dragging them to the side with the mouse or a finger. This is not possible using the keyboard.

The content of the galleries is also available on the respective subpages and can be accessed there without the gallery.

We will ensure that the buttons for navigating through the images are made visible and that the dots can be clicked.

5. Contact window on a smartphone

On a smartphone, the contact window fills the entire screen. There is no button to close it. The window can only be closed using the Escape key. If you do not have a keyboard, you will need to reload the page. On a computer, the window can be closed by clicking next to it.

You can also contact us by telephone on 040 43 17 02 - 0 and by email at info@kaifu.de.

We will add a close button.

6. Order of headings

On some pages, a second-level heading is immediately followed by a heading of a lower level. This means that anyone navigating through the headings using a screen reader loses track of the structure. The content itself is fully readable.

We will adjust the heading levels in the relevant templates.

7. Documents for download

Some downloadable documents, such as our annual reports, are not yet accessible. If you require one of these documents in an accessible format, please contact us. We will provide you with the content.

We are gradually replacing the documents with accessible versions.

What is accessible on this website

The following, amongst other things, have been checked and are in order:

  • the labels for form fields,
  • the alternative text for images in the content,
  • text colour contrasts,
  • the ability to enlarge text and spacing without losing content,
  • consideration of the system setting for reduced motion; image changes can be paused.

Plain language and sign language

Our website does not currently offer any content in plain language or any videos in German sign language.

If you need information from our website but do not understand it, please call us on 040 43 17 02 - 0. We will explain the content to you.
