The Lille Torv 4 residential complex, Felicitas-Kukuck-Straße 13–15, comprising 48 two-room flats (built in 2020), is situated in Neue Mitte Altona. The neighbourhood, which is being developed on the site of the former goods railway yard, is not officially a district at all. And, strictly speaking, it is only known as ‘Mitte Altona’; nevertheless, over the years, the name ‘Neue Mitte Altona’ has become established for one of the most exciting construction projects in the north. The neighbourhood is being developed in two phases. The first phase, comprising around 1,600 flats, four nurseries, a school and a centrally located park, will be completed in 2022; the second phase is not expected to be finished until 2029, following the planned relocation of the long-distance railway station to Diebsteich. In the meantime, the Holsten Quarter is being built on the neighbouring site of the Holsten Brewery, which has since moved to Hausbruch. As part of the first construction phase, KAIFU has built 48 publicly subsidised, accessible two-bedroom flats for the over-60s in collaboration with the association ‘Mit MEKAN Gemeinsam Älter Werden’. With Altona station and numerous bus routes, the neighbourhood is ideally connected to the local public transport network.
