The housing estate at Griegstraße 38, Lisztstraße 47–53 and Bielfeldtstraße 23, comprising 41 one- to four-room flats (built in 1952), is situated in the Ottensen district. Ottensen, once a major industrial centre, is now one of Hamburg’s trendiest neighbourhoods, partly thanks to its proximity to the River Elbe. The Altonaer Theatre, the Thalia Theatre’s Gauss venue and the Monsun Theatre also attract many culture lovers from other parts of the city to Ottensen. The Zeise Cinema, housed in a former ship’s propeller factory, is one of the most beautiful cinemas in northern Germany. The Altonale, a two-week cultural and street festival, attracts up to 600,000 visitors every year. The Altonaer Museum, founded in 1863, houses fascinating historical collections. Ottenser Hauptstraße and the surrounding area are ideal for shopping and dining. Thanks to Altona railway station and numerous bus routes, the district is very well served by public transport.
