The Niflandring 2–8, 8A housing estate, comprising 71 one- to four-bedroom flats (built in 1977), is situated in the Rissen district. This district, part of the Altona borough and home to more than 15,000 residents, is particularly noted for its nature reserves. These include the Klövensteen woodland and the Schnaakenmoor. The Wittenbergen nature reserve lies directly on the River Elbe. Also worth mentioning is the Tinsdaler Heide, situated above the Geest slope. But Rissen is more than just Hamburg’s ‘green oasis’. The westernmost district in Hamburg (apart from the island of Neuwerk) captivates with its rather village-like and cosy character. This is another reason why families feel very much at home here. Children particularly love the wildlife enclosure on Sandmoorweg in Klövensteen, home to wild boars and plenty of fallow deer. On sunny days, a trip to Wittenbergen’s sandy beach is a must – for many Hamburg residents, it is the most beautiful stretch of the Hanseatic city’s 13-kilometre-long Elbe beach. The Tinsdal Lighthouse, which came into operation in 1899 and is now a listed building, still provides valuable guidance to shipping. The 30-metre-high structure is also a popular subject for photographs. Rissen is very well connected to the Hamburg city centre via S-Bahn line 1.
