Foorthkamp 27

Foorthkamp 27

The Foorthkamp 27 housing estate, comprising 45 one- and two-bedroom flats (built in 1962), is situated in the Langenhorn district. With a population of 45,000 spread over 13.8 square kilometres, this district in the Hamburg Nord borough is one of the least densely populated districts in the Hanseatic city. The neighbourhood’s most famous resident was the former Federal Chancellor Helmut Schmidt, who lived here with his wife Loki at Neubergerweg 80/82. This is now home to the Helmut and Loki Schmidt Foundation, which aims to preserve the memory of the Hanseatic statesman’s legacy. A visit to the Fritz Schumacher Estate is also well worth it. The legendary Chief Architect created a garden city here based on the idea that residents could be self-sufficient by growing their own fruit and vegetables. The estate has been a listed building since 2013. When it comes to nature, Langenhorn also has plenty to offer alongside its many flower gardens. The Raakmoor nature reserve can be explored via wooden walkways. The Kiwittsmoor natural swimming area, which underwent extensive renovation in 2015, is also popular with residents of neighbouring districts. With the underground stations Langenhorn-Markt, Langenhorn-Nord, Kiwittsmoor and Ochsenzoll, as well as several bus routes, the district is ideally connected to local public transport.
