The Foorthkamp 15–19 housing estate, comprising 24 two- to three-room flats (built in 1962), is situated in the Langenhorn district. With a population of 45,000 spread over 13.8 square kilometres, this district in Hamburg North is one of the least densely populated areas of the Hanseatic city. The neighbourhood’s most famous resident was the former Federal Chancellor Helmut Schmidt, who lived here with his wife Loki at Neubergerweg 80/82. This is now home to the Helmut and Loki Schmidt Foundation, which aims to preserve the memory of the Hanseatic statesman’s legacy. A visit to the Fritz-Schumacher Estate is also well worth it. The legendary Chief Planning Officer created a garden city here with the idea that residents could be self-sufficient by growing their own fruit and vegetables. The estate has been a listed building since 2013. When it comes to nature, Langenhorn also has plenty to offer alongside its many flower gardens. The Raakmoor nature reserve can be explored via wooden walkways. The Kiwittsmoor natural swimming area, which underwent extensive renovation in 2015, is also popular with residents of neighbouring districts. With the underground stations Langenhorn-Markt, Langenhorn-Nord, Kiwittsmoor and Ochsenzoll, as well as several bus routes, the district is ideally connected to the local public transport network.
