The housing estate at Ritterstraße 38–42, Papenstraße 63, 63 A–B, comprising 49 one- to four-room flats (built in 1955), is situated in the Eilbek district. The district, with a population of around 22,000 in the borough of Wandsbek, was almost completely destroyed during the Second World War. Today, the neighbourhood is characterised by multi-storey post-war buildings. Eilbek offers many smaller flats, making it a popular choice amongst singles and couples. With Jacobipark, once a cemetery, Eilbek offers an attractive local recreational area. The paths also lead past historic tombs. In terms of culture, Eilbek stands out with the Fundus Theatre, an innovative children’s theatre. The district is exceptionally well connected to public transport, with three S-Bahn stations (Landwehr, Hasselbrook, Wandsbeker Chaussee), three U-Bahn stations (Wartenau, Ritterstraße, Wandsbeker Chaussee) and numerous bus routes. If you’re cycling towards the city centre, the best route is along the Eilbek Canal to the Alster.
