The housing estate at Alter Teichweg 91–105 and Elsässer Straße 3,3 A, comprising 100 one- to six-room flats (built in 1950), is situated in the Duslberg district. This neighbourhood in the Hamburg Nord district, with around 17,000 residents living within an area of approximately 1.2 square kilometres, is one of the most densely populated areas of the Hanseatic city. Dulsberg is best known for the Hamburg/Schleswig-Holstein Olympic Training Centre, with the Alter Teichweg neighbourhood school serving as an elite sports school. Particular emphasis is placed on beach volleyball, hockey, swimming, badminton and handball. Many current and aspiring top-level athletes train here. The centre includes the Dulsberg-Bad, which features a counter-current channel for competitive swimmers. The legendary chief building officer and architect Fritz Schumacher designed the neighbourhood. Almost all the buildings in this architectural gem were destroyed during the Second World War. However, the neighbourhood was successfully rebuilt in the 1950s to closely resemble the original; 20 per cent of the buildings are now listed. The Dulsberg green corridor and the banks of the Osterbek Canal are ideal for walks. Furthermore, the courtyards of many residential complexes provide a relaxing environment. Thanks to the Straßburger Straße and Alter Teichweg underground stations, as well as the Friedrichsberg S-Bahn station, Dulsberg has excellent connections to public transport.
